My Approach

What makes me a unique doctor is that I have a background as a personal trainer and spinning instructor who went to medical school with the sole purpose of helping my patients become healthy.

The reality of medical school is that it doesn’t teach a doctor how to obtain health for their patients but rather teaches doctors to manage disease. I have been accused of wanting only healthy patients in my practice, and that is completely true! If my patients are not healthy I am not doing my job.

I have a modern kitchen in the center of my medical practice because true health is obtained through our lifestyle choices and food is the most important change people can do to change their health.

I promote a plant based diet and have over 30 years experience with diet, exercise and lifestyle modifications for health. I also have an extensive collection of health related resources available to my patients and customized eating plans are prescribed according to each individual patient's needs and desires. Remember this is not just about change but about long lasting lifestyle changes.

I have designed my medical practice to reflect a time when doctors knew their patients well and made decisions about their health based on that knowledge. I spend extensive time with my patients and help design a health plan based on what each patient wants. My job is to help my patients navigate toward health.

I am a board certified Family Practice Physician with a genetics degree from UC Davis.

I started my career in health and lifestyle medicine, as a personal trainer, and realized that I needed to take my education to the next level in order to really help my clients get healthy. I graduated from UC Davis with a degree in genetics while completing genetics research at the nationally recognized Genome Center. I continued to advance my education at Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine located in the San Francisco Bay area.

Being an Osteopath has allowed me to focus on integrating many aspects of health and healing into my practice. I trained in Cranial Sacral Therapy, and currently I am the only cranial sacral therapist in the Sacramento area listed with the Cranial Academy.

I completed my family practice residency at a rural hospital in Pennsylvania. My inpatient experience helped me realize that the problem with the health of America needs to address long before the ambulance comes into the emergency room. Many of my patients filing into hospitals have chronic health issues that could have been prevented with a doctor who can see the connection between what we feed our bodies and our overall health.

I often spend more than an hour with patients on their first visit and will take as much time as a patient needs to address all of their problems. I know that spending time with my patients helps me determine the best plan of care. Each patient has different goals and I tailor my medical plan accordingly. Wouldn’t you like a doctor that spends time with you and finds out what is important to you?
